The MIX goes to Japan, Europe, Seattle and back!

MIX events have been circling the globe over the past few months, including our first partnerships with the gamescom and BitSummit teams, along with our now annual PAX West week, E3, EVO and GDC events.

MIX SEATTLE

The PAX West week showcase returned to the stylish, split-level Block 41, where this event started a few years back. We had 59 teams showing their games including stealth death metal death match games, VR stealth experiences, dinosaurs, monsters, cats and more!

The MIX teamed up with Raw Fury to present this year’s event again, with Raw Fury showing Atomicrops, Star Renegades, Mosaic and Kingdoms Two Crowns: Challenge Islands in Block 41’s upper level.  Swimsanity and Hancho came out large on the big screens – including foam shark fins from Swimsanity!

DJ Rage was also on the decks upstairs, laying down great sounds to guests who came through all night to play the games, sample tasty bites, drink and have good times!

The lower level featured an impressive range of VR games in the Oculus showcase, Skater XL and Haven on the big screen, and many other fun games.

Journalists from IGN, GameSpot, Kotaku, PC Gamer, Tom’s Guide, Ars Technica, Shacknews, Bleeding Cool, Hardcore Gamer, Nintendo Life, Nintendo World Report, TouchArcade, Monstervine, Geekdad, Greenlit Content and streamers came for the press preview hour, and industry guests included folks from Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, Oculus, Google, Kickstarter, Fig, Raw Fury, Good Shepherd, Limited Run, VIZ, and more!

Best of The MIX

Selecting Best of The MIX is always challenging, with so many different kinds of impressive games throughout the showcase.  Good Shepherd’s Vernon Vrolijk and Sarah Elliott, Pete Biles and Bryan Belcher from Limited Run selected two Judge’s Picks.

Judge’s Top Pick: Star Renegades

A tactical squad-based rogue-lite RPG set in an endless interplanetary rebellion against an evil authoritarian empire.

Judge’s Runner Up: Skater XL

The evolution of skateboarding games, moving the genre towards expressive, physics-based gameplay.

Guests at the event also submitted ballots for their favorite games.

Guest’s Top Pick: Cat Lady

A purr-fect blend of dual-stick shooter action, roguelike elements, and tons of collectibility.

Guest’s Runner Up: Haven

The journey of two lovers, escaped to a lost planet in a desperate attempt to stay together.

Thanks to Oculus, Microsoft, PlayStation, VIZ, Astro and Skater XL for amazing prize package contributions, including two giveaways for guests during the night.

Folks who couldn’t make it to the event can watch more highlights from our live stream archive here.

In other MIX news …

The MIX team has recently embarked on new global ventures around the world!

Just prior to PAX, we worked with the gamescom team on the very first showcase at Koelnmesse in Cologne!  Our curation team picked MIX Selects games that really stood out for us, worked with Rocket Beans on a live stream from the event and hosted a reception for press and industry guests the evening before gamescom opened up to the public.  More details on the event posted here.

Folks from our team journeyed to Kyoto in the weeks between GDC and E3 for a very fun event with the BitSummit team.  Similar to Gamescom, we helped organize a press and industry reception for press and industry to play games with the dev teams before the big public opening and more gamers coming through the expo floor.

Now, we’re all taking a deep breath until the next events! We’ve experienced lots of great games, locales, guests and fun over the past few months and are looking forward to more soon!
